Was 1st January 2000 the start of the new millennium? Most people think it was, and therefore it also started the century and decade. Since a decade is ten years, then we must now be in the second decade of the twenty-first century.
Regardless of what calendar we use and when it was imposed Year 1 will be the first year. it's got something to do with maths. That is why 2001 was the first year of the new millenium and why we still have a year to run in this decade. The Victorians knew this, why have we lost it?
