freedom!! in miniskirts, swearing and lying on benches

that place in Italy where they banned miniskirts is mental. not happy with that at all. personally, i think people should be allowed to wear whatever they want. i'm personally more in favour of personal freedom than societal moral outrage

What next - penalising students for taking caffeine?

I agree entirely, to say nothing of the libertarian argument.
Legalise please. Not part-way decriminalisation, but full on legalisation please.
Thank you

The limits of liberation

An excellent article, and one I thoroughly agree with.
If a woman chooses to do a job, she should be free to do it. As pointed out here: sex slavery - the problem is the slavery, not the sex.
All too many feminists are becoming anti-sex conservatives too keen on imposing their values on other people. they have decided they don't like the sex industry therefore it is inherently wrong. They often cobble together something about it being exploitative and be done with it. Well, I disagree.
Jennifer Abel, I salute you

The Telegraph's toxic attack | Henry Porter | Comment is free | guardian.co.uk‏

""Every time they are
asked to choose between the defence of the realm, or upholding the rights of some Islamic militant who claims his human rights have been violated, the judges invariably find in favour of the latter.""
Pretty much a paint-by-numbers right-wing paper opinion piece. The same thing, in slightly different words, comes out again and again.

On torture. It comes down to how willing people are to die free or live under a government that may use torture. I think, as much as possible, the country should decide. If someone is willing to take the lives of others for their own ends, should not their life be considered expendable? Their liberty too.
Are we willing to have our family and friends cut down in their prime for the freedom of someone who would take advantage of freedoms they would not grant us? That's the decision this country needs to make, but must also always be careful to keep re-thinking.

25th Anniversary of Tory conference bombing

Terrorism eh? Very bad and nasty, even against Tories.
Another example of why democracy must triumph over terrorism and violence, even if it must be the lesser of two evils by compromising itself.

Despite being a liberal, almost libertarian, socialist, i can sympathise with authoritarian government on the basis of protecting life. This is relevant with regards to what we are facing now, and i think pragmatism must win the day. Ideally, it should be put to the people: to forego freedom for life, ir forego life for freedom.
I'd go for the latter, but i wouldn't impose than on others without their consent

Ganga in Argentina

"The supreme court in Argentina has ruled that it is unconstitutional to punish people for using marijuana for personal consumption."

I'm with the Argentine Supreme Court on this. I would like to see marijuana on the same level as alcohol as i believe they are pretty much the same, except that one doesn't make you violent.

Quote of the day

Perhaps i'm not feeling well, but I find myself agreeing with (that twat) Guido Fawkes on two counts today.
Firstly, his quote of the day:
"Alan Johnson says…
“The connection between The Wire and Chris Grayling’s grasp on the problems of modern Britain is that they’re both fictional.”"

Second,
on legalising drugs and the futility of trying to fight them. "The biggest beneficiaries of drug prohibition are the crime bosses."

Now i'm off to lie down
