hyper-exaggeration and right wing papers in silly season

my favourite front page of today. The Mail claim that NICE are under-stating the benefits of this drug, however I feel that them calling it a ‘miracle’ might be slightly OVER-stating its effectiveness.

Not surprisingly, the story about how the coalition’s emergency budget is on the left leaning papers, but not mentioned in the Tory ones

Daily Mail Reader: world cup too full of foreigners

"Wouldn't it be great if TV coverage of the World Cup was limited to England's games, those of hosts South Africa and of the tournament's 'big guns'.
"Then we would be spared the ordeal of having to sit through a match between Bongo Bongoland and the Former Soviet Republic of Bulimia and other meaningless events.

Using immigration to turn Britain into a nation of Labour voters is so shameful I can hardly believe it | Mail Online‏

Cynical WUM moment of the year goes to this cunt.
Are Labour importing immigrant to vote Labour? No. for a start you have to qualify for it.
For another it's a standard tory lie to whip up anti-immigrant and anti-labour feeling.
It's pretty fucking shameful

Faith schools must implement anti-homophobic policies, says Clegg in pitch for gay vote | Mail Online‏

Pretty disgusting stuff, branding tolerance as 'fascism'. Typical Mail.

The comments page s far worse. Disgusting

Daily Mail on Immigration

Left Foot Forward have done a piece which attacks the Mail's figures on immigration.
The Mail is going on about immigration up by 50%, when that's not true.
Hardly surprising that the BNP do well when publications like the Mail do all they can to fan the flames of racial tension

Daily Mail bollocks comment of the day

From Mad 'Mel Phillips'
I haven't read the whole thing coz i'd get angry. I can't stand that woman. Which is the point, she's a WUM.
Her headline "Our leaders are queuing to prove their virtue by denouncing the vile BNP. But it's they who are to blame for its rise".
I take issue with that, I think it's the likes of her and Littlejohn going on about immigrants taking over, the middle classes being squeezed from all angles and their usual lines that they trot out about the English being under seige.
Hardly surprising if someone then believes them, is it?
So i don't buy it.

"[Griffin] opposes mass immigration, Islamisation and the loss of sovereignty to the EU...These are all legitimate concerns which are widely held by people who fear the loss of Britain's historic identity - but which are stigmatised as beyond the pale by an intelligentsia which considers any such expression of nationalistic sentiment to be a form of racism"
This about nationalistic sentiment being seen as racism is largely bollocks, and the kind of bollocks that provides a great deal of support for the BNP. Publications like the Mail are doing most of the BNP's ground work for them.

"The BNP really is racist. Its constitution states it is 'wholly opposed to racial integration' between British and non-European people, and that it wants to restore 'the overwhelmingly white makeup' of Britain before 1948.

But because legitimate feelings about national identity are also deemed to be racist, Griffin has been able to present the entire political mainstream as a conspiracy against the interests of ordinary people."
Having a national identify of which you're proud is not racist, and only some mentals on the margins SEE it as racist. The problem is that publications like the Mail are full of stories every day about how Britains are being attacked by the political establishment for being British, which is not true.

Typical mad bullshit:
"The liberal intelligentsia has put the BNP's rise down to the bigotry and imbecility of ordinary people.

Having turned patriotism from a civic virtue into a racial crime, however, it is that elite which has driven thousands of decent, patriotic British people, both white and dark-skinned, to supporting the BNP."
The liberal elite? Ha!

I added these pearls of wisdom, let's see if they post it:
"What utter rubbish.
I'm a lefty liberal and i'm very proud of being British. I don't consider it racist for anyone to be proud of who they are or where they're from, and no one else I know does either.
It's cynical Wind Up Merchants like Mad Mel Phillips that are to blame for the rise of the BNP, spreading this myth that British people are under attack, rubbish!

I'm British and proud, and the BNP make me sick to my stomach"

Alastair Campbell on Hating the Daily Mail

Quality
"As I say to air stewards who offer me a copy of the Mail if I get on one of their planes, prior to taking it and tearing it in half and giving it back to them, I assume they won't be serving dogshit with the dinner, so why force me to take the media equivalent?"

"To be hated by The Mail is to know that whatever other faults you may have, you've done something right."

Daily Mail readers in 'Champion of gay rights' shock

There's a very nasty piece in the Mail today slagging off Stephen Gately headlined "Why there was nothing 'natural' about Stephen Gately's death".
And all the comments are slagging the piece off! Hurrar for common sense over homophobia

Celebrities buy bog roll

The Daily Mail kept to its usual high standards of journalism with this headline: "X Factor hopefuls Stacey and Rachel go shopping for loo roll"
what crap, celebrity-obsessed bollocks.
I really don't see how ANYONE buying bogroll is newsworthy

misleading media?

Left Foot Forward, who are not impartial, are alleging that the Daily Mail are spouting rubbish. That in itself is a pretty fair suggestion. The specifics cover this article on quangos "The cost of quango Britain hits £170bn - a seven-fold rise since Labour came to power".

The Left Foot Forward article here alleges that the Mail use Taxpayer Alliance figures which are "not a like-for-like comparison". With statistics, precision is everything and the odd thing here or there makes all the difference. In this case, not comparing like-for-like allows the latter figure to be overblown in order to give the effect they are after.
Bloody Daily Mail
Bloody Taxpayers' Alliance, a real nasty lot

Richard Littlejohn is a twat

I dislike Littlejohn and what he stands for (wind-up merchant) so i've quoted in full:
"Another day, another uninformed rant by the Daily Mail’s Richard Littlejohn.

He says today:

Beyoncé belief
Reader Nick Paterson-Morgan drew my attention to the following announcement in The Times:

My first reaction was that this must be a wind-up, probably placed for a bet by someone at the swine flu hotline with nothing better to do. We rang The Times advertising department and they assured us it was genuine.

There’s no mention of a Mr Pong, or any father’s name for that matter. If true, which I still doubt, somewhere out there in Shropshire is a single mother called Kate Pong with quins, variously named after an American pop singer, a model and the U.S. President.

You couldn’t make it up.

Actually you could make it up. MacGuffin at TabloidWatch points out that Littlejohn’s team, typically, didn’t bother checking their facts properly. Kate Pong is a labrador.

He says ‘we’ rang the Times, which suggests he couldn’t even do that himself either. And notice how he even includes a snide remark about single mothers. In a story about a dog.

And there’s plenty of other rubbish research in the article too. See TabloidWatch."

peter hitchens rant

what an idiot peter hitchens is.
i was directed to this typically nonsensical rant from pickled politics here.

He's going on about how much better things would be if we had never enter the Second World War. probably because hitches is a fan of nazism.
too extreme of me? perhaps, but he would be a good propagandist for them:

"We are a second-rate power, rapidly slipping into third-rate status. We have a weak currency and shrunken armed forces, deployed as auxiliaries in wars that are not in our interest, and we are largely governed from abroad.

Our Parliament is a bought and paid-for puppet chamber. Our culture and customs have been debauched and our younger generations corrupted, as subject populations are, with drink, drugs and promiscuity.

We are compelled, like an occupied people, to use foreign measures to buy butter or meat, and our history is largely forgotten or deliberately distorted in the schools to suit anti-British dogma. Those schools are unable to educate most of our children up to the levels of our main rivals, so ensuring that we provide no challenge to them. Our country has been Balkanised into provinces and regions. Our language is invaded by foreign words and expressions"

At the end of the day, if we hadn't got involved in our own terms, we would probably have been attacked by the Nazis, they were a bit like that

Not surprisingly, the comments make Hitchens sound like a balanced and rational individual.

Blah, blah, blah. Cry me a river! You honestly think that the UK could have taken on the Communists by yourselves? Your supposition is built upon a mountain of "what if's." You remind me of Terry, the Marlon Brando character from "On the Waterfront": "I coulda had class. I coulda been a contender. I coulda been somebody, instead of a bum." If you think America sucks so bad, stop eating at McDonald's and watching our movies!!

crime and bad behaviour were always around its just it was ignored and there was no massive media machine reporting it.
britain was in dire financial trouble and declining influence before ww2 and you also insult the country ignoring the fact we still have a large economy, healthcare, welfare as well as one of the largest and best navies, best trained armies and airforce as well as the worlds 5 richest nation despite having no empire and a tiny stretch of land.

"We are compelled.... to use foreign measures to buy butter and meat".
Utter drivel. Would you prefer "I'll have 4ozs. of sugar and a pound of flour" "That'll be one pound, three shillings and sixpence missus".
And there's no such place as "Londonderry".

INdia , jewel in the crown , was lost not because of the second world war, but because of the barbaric colonial rullers
British were at the point where the freedom fighters weregetting into control and would have forced the British leave India
British did a very shrud move, got Jinnah divided the country and left. they had to divide the country ,as they cannot bear to leave India.
till todate neither the India gov nro the British will come out with the facts about
the death of the India's freedom fighter Subhas Bose.

What rubbish. The Nazis would have attacked us anyway.

- my contribution, significantly edited.

I suggest that you read Jo Walton's trilogy--Farthing, Ha'Penny, and Half a Crown, to see what kind of world would have resulted from Britain's coming to a craven peace with with Hitler.

Daily Mail bollocks story of the day

There are lies, damn lies, and Daily Mail statistics, it seems.
I studied Sociology at uni, so i know all too much about how to come up with statistics.
When working for the Mail, it seems it's ok to get one lot of stats, compare them with something completely different to make a scare story.
Example here, from Liberal Conspiracy.
"Journalism and statistics go together like Dog the Bounty Hunter on a dinner date with Tolstoy."
"The piece begins triumphantly: “The true extent of the huge influx of foreign workers into Britain is revealed in an investigation by the Daily Mail.” In a line that wouldn’t be out of place in a BNP pamphlet**, it adds, “The figure[s] expose as a sham the New Labour pledge of ‘British jobs for British workers”."

Cheap fun

Today I have the worst rated 'comment' on a story website of the Harmsworth Lie Machine, Daily Hate Edition.

"Brown is the right man to see the UK through the recession. His action has saved our economy and let's hope he can win the next election to carry on his good work"

Has got lots of red 'bad' marks. Yay

Working in a supermaket

I know I shouldn't, but I was reading something in the Daily Mail.
I've worked in a supermarket, part time. It was horrible. The staff were treated like crap, we weren't allowed to talk during the shift other than to help customers. All I was doing was staking shelves.
I'm lucky that I didn't have to stay there long, and I wouldn't want to go back. I've had other simular jobs, working in what i called the 'arse end of the service industry' and others have agreed with that assessment.
What struck me about the article was how horrible and rude most people are, how people expect things to be landed on their plates, not only from the people mentioned in the article but the comments section too.

Daily Mail bollocks story of the day

"Modern hairdressers? They're as bad as Guantanamo Bay"
No, they're not. End of.

Daily Mail bollocks comment of the day

I should really start: oh ho ho ho ho ho, ah ha ha ha ha ha like the laughing policeman.
Ah, the poor, downtrodden middle classes. These defenceless darlings, at mercy to the lefty-conspiracy currently forced on the country by those evil politicians, defrauding the good middle-classes of all their hard earned cash, given to the rich, the poor, "the indolent, whose access to benefits and other state handouts has never been greater."
Those 'ravaged' by one stealth tax after another.
Any serious points, be they about direct/indirect taxation, overall tax take, spending, are blown out of the water by the usual Daily Mail nimby crap. Not forgetting of course to add a bit about "Labour's policy of uncontrolled migration."
Usual bollocks.

It looks like everyone is going to suffer in the coming years, and everyone needs to feel the pain. I'd rather the money was made up by tax rises primarily, rather than massive cuts. In which case everyone has to pay. Even me, being middle class that is.
Typical that Labour are seen (by me and others) as being too close to the Daily Mail, fat lot of good that's ever done us.
The Mail see everything as a socialist conspiracy against the middle-classes. Just goes to show the real power of dogma and belief

Daily Mail bollocks news story of the day

Today's Daily Mail bollocks that has amaused me, headline could be 'The foreigners are out to get you!'
Typical Mail, more to be expected over the silly season.
Best quote:
"the lure of the UK's 'enormous' state handouts to asylum-seekers was the reason why thousands of foreigners are using the French port as a staging point to get across the Channel.

Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1201039/Calais-migrants-ambush-Britons-knifepoint-terrifying-highway-robberies.html#ixzz0Lu3niHO4"

In others news, apparently MPs have an 82-day summer holiday. Which just isn't true. Writing for the Mail seems like easy work to me, write a piece of outraged fiction and there you go. Bastards

Gay bashing

Typical bloody Daily Mail. This article is nothing more than gay-bashing and it's disgusting. Why should people being open with their sexuality be so disturbing?
"having spoken to many youngsters about this, I'm coming to the worrying conclusion that Katy Perry's song I Kissed A Girl...increasingly represents the experience of a generation of girls who are happy and relaxed about public, same-sex sexual experimentation."

Why is this so worrying eh? Disgusting.
Typical Daily Mail in that the author is worried about the middle and upper classes becoming infected with this relaxed approach to their sexuality.

"'We know it's the kind of thing that would shock adults, so we enjoy doing it.'

Well, there's no doubt that adults, and particularly the parents of teenage girls, will be disturbed, to say the least. "

Anything which pisses off the Daily Mail is ok by me (within reason).

People should be free to do as they wish without fear that their sexuality will be seen as 'wrong'. If they are 'experimenting' then let them.

"One church notice board carried the slogan: 'I kissed a girl - and went straight to hell."
This made my laugh out loud.
